Fiber Artist + Painter
Artist Statement:
I grew up as a military child, moving frequently and rebuilding my sense of place with each transition. I use painting and fibers to document specific people, environments, and emotional moments tied to those moves. I treat art as a tool for connection, using it to bridge
unfamiliar spaces and create immediate points of recognition between myself and others.
I create two-dimensional works through painting and drawing that focus on memory and observation, often translating figures, clothing, and environments from specific periods of my life. I extend these ideas into three-dimensional forms using fiber work that reflects techniques learned from different instructors across locations, combining many methods into a single piece. This process directly mirrors how I build identity through experiences.
I pull inspiration from everyday events and translate them into visual form. Because I did not grow up with a consistent sense of tradition, I construct my own through repetition of materials and techniques. These processes create structure within constant change. My work makes change visible and tangible, allowing both myself and viewers to locate meaning within experiences and recognize how everyday moments shape identity.
